For the story, this picture was taken just before the ceremony ! The groom was passing by and the bride simply did not want to be seen - Great use of the bouquet on the Mum's part!

I was pointed to a very interesting wedding website for a change! The website is named conscious weddings.
Here are a few words which sum up the driving theme behind such a meaningful title.
A Conscious Bride is a Calm, Joyful, and Present Bride.
A Conscious Wedding is a Meaningful, Creative, and Loving Event.
THE website is the continuity of a book projet written by Sheryl Paul- The Book is called "The Conscious Bride"
When asked, most people will say that their wedding process included as much chaos, grief, and confusion as joy and bliss. Yet they also felt that they had to keep those emotions hidden. Because expression of the "darker" side of the wedding is not encouraged, women and their families commonly transfer the difficult emotions onto the planning of the event. It is not uncommon to emerge from the wedding bewildered by the tension and anxiety that surrounded their day.
It is time to bring the wedding's shadow into the light and help women and their families understand what is happening to them. This book and consequent website is a wonderful success in helping the couple and relatives going through a blissful wedding period ! Before, During and After ....
I will send this book to a few of my bides as a thank you present. If you know anyone getting married soon, That might be a great idea !

I have just created a separate section on my website called PORTRAITS OF KIRA AND JONATHAN - I decided to do so after having met with a potential client in new york who was showing me tearsheet of Vogue magazine saying it was exactly what she wanted for her wedding- Wonderful, this is exactly what i love doing-
So Have a look at weddinglight.com - Indeed, you will find a collection of portraits of the bride and the groom together and separate! Some are more posed than others - they were all great fun to take - Those portraits required an hour and a half to complete - Use of an assistant for the light as well as a medium format camera : Rolleiflex - You decide whether it is worth it ! The alternative would be to just have documentary Style photography for your wedding - And do without those beautiful images -

From ancient times to the present, weddings have always been important religious ceremonies and social occasions. While some wedding traditions, customs, and fashions have withstood the test of time, our modern conceptions of weddings, particularly the white wedding, are primarily a 19th century creation.
The white wedding first became fashionable during the Victorian era, roughly 1840 to 1900, with the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert. Before that time, it was quite common for a woman to wear the best dress that she owned, whatever color it may have been. At other times, a particular color was fashionable for wedding attire. Roman brides often chose to wear yellow, while women in the 16th and 17th centuries preferred pale green. It was not until the early 19th century that white became a fashionable color to wear at formal occasions. And it was not until white became fashionable as the color for a woman's wedding gown in the mid-19th century that it became associated with the purity and innocence we associate it with today. Even so, our modern concepts of white are quite different from the Victorians'. Thus, today we would consider "white" from this time period as more of a cream color.
After the inception of the white wedding in the mid-19th century, wedding fashions continued to change. While the continuity of the "white" wedding is apparent, each dress is unique and indicative of the fashion of its particular time. Each dress is also significant because of the women who wore it. Many of the dresses were shared among sisters or passed down from mother to daughter. So, while each is representative of a particular time period, they all reflect the continuity of marriage and the strong ties of family...

I have just purchased a book over christmas. The Audrey Hepburn Treasures, Published by Simon & Schuster,inc. I am thinking about this particular book because one of my Bride has the same grace, elegance, warmth and generosity. Trina was running on the streets of NYC with Michael her husband and friends in my previous blog. The first photo was taken by Howell Conant in 1958 at a dress fitting with Hubert de Givenchy- her life friend and confident - The second was taken by Anthony Beauchamp circa 1950 in london. Those two portraits of Audrey are very simple, quite straight forward and at the same time very classic and breathtakingly beautiful. I try to apply those principle to my wedding photography.
It is all about warmth, simplicity and trust.By the way, you may want to purchase this book

As i said before, i feel very privileged to perform my "photographic Art" amongst so much Joy and Happiness. I love my craft that has allowed me to grow as a human being and constantly learn to become better at what i do and who i am. I photographed Michael and Trina's wedding in New York and consequently photographed Doug and Ali's wedding ( on the right ) a few years later in Washington, DC this time. Posted by Olivier Lalin - First and most important when you start looking for your wedding photographer, is to look for Mr nice Guy. Not only it might be a little extra to have a photographer with a sense of humor but AT THE END OF THE DAY, it will transcend in the images. There is a trend in "wedding terminoligies" today that flavors this style of wedding photography. I must say it doesn't sound right to my ear and it certainly doesn't sound like a lot of Fun either. The idea would be to simply document the wedding from a distance as it rolls in front of a photographers eyes without ever interrupting the flow! My task as a wedding photographer is to capture the moments, all the joy, the tears, the emotions, kisses, bouquets flying high for one thing but i have to move closer, get involved, meet the protagonists, and at times participate and Create moments with the help of the bride and groom, friends and family! In order to do that, you have to be accepted very quickly by everyone. In a way everyone has to love you at first sight, then you gain people's trust. Remember most of us are camera shy
Probably the reason why this wedding photojournalistic trend has attracted so many brides. Regardless, if you look at the image of this couple taken in central park, you might understand where i am getting at. The photo was made possible because i gained the couple's trust. It looks like a photojournalistic approach but it is not in a way as i guided them through a little game we played. And then i captured the moment.
